Water sports on the Uitgeestermeer

Sailing, surfing, SUPping, slooping: the Uitgeestermeer lake is the reason for many to come to Erfgoedpark de Hoop. The unprecedented water sports possibilities in the vast and peaceful nature reserve make the lake a great location to fully enjoy the water.

For windsurfers, the surf beach is a paradise. The beach is right next to the park, and from here fanatic surfers can cover the entire Uitgeestermeer. For less experienced windsurfers, the lee towards the Dijkerhemme is a fine place to learn to surf. You will certainly come across a sailing school here, as the lake is also a popular place to learn to sail.

When the weather is nice, you can rent a sloop from one of several rental companies around the lake, such as, Sloop rental Uitgeest, located close to the park. Reception is always ready to help with tips or to book a sloop. Bring a well-stocked picnic basket and have a picnic on Pancake Island or one of the other peaceful spots on and around the lake; a great day out!

Out and about in Uitgeest

Uitgeest is a nice, old village with everything you need. There are several bakeries and a butcher, who makes delicious sausages in his own sausage factory. In and around the village, you can enjoy good food at several nice restaurants, one of the favourite places being Eetcafé Klaas. The eatery has been awarded a Bib Gourmand, an award from the Michelin Guide that stands for top quality at a fair price.

The Klaas' men are also responsible for the fantastic Krelis restaurant, which is built on the park. The brand-new restaurant is the childhood dream of its owners, Jos and Niek. The kitchen, the bar, the private rooms upstairs: everything has been completely designed and built according to the wishes and vision of these two Uitgeester hospitality entrepreneurs. In their enthusiastic stories, you notice that quality comes first. The food is surprising, innovative and of exceptional quality and so is the selection of wines as well as the service.

The lovely sunny terrace surrounding the restaurant overlooks the water and is a great place to wake up in the morning with a cup of good coffee or for a delicious dinner. Krelis is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reservations are required, preferably via the restaurant's website.

Right next to the park is Uitgeest's marina. Here you will find restaurant Havenrijk, with a lovely covered terrace by the water. Here, too, you can enjoy lunch and drinks all afternoon.

Bring your running shoes

From the park, you can run a lovely lap of about 11 kilometres. The route takes you along the dike, past the lake on one side and the nature reserve on the other. From the park, walk to the road, where you turn left at the t-junction. After 750 metres, turn left onto the Zwaansmeerpad. This point can be recognised by a sign showing cycling and walking routes in the area. From here you follow the path along the water on your left and have the Woudpolder on your right.

About halfway through the round trip, you'll come across Rustpunt Woudpolder, where you can catch your breath on one of the benches overlooking the Woudpolder. Coffee and tea are ready! More information of the rest area can be found here.

The entire route can be found on afstandmeten.nl. Here you can also download the route as a GPX or TCX file for your running watch. The route can also be done on foot, in which case take over 2.5 hours. It is also easy to cycle with children.

Day trip to Amsterdam, Haarlem or Castricum aan Zee

The park is close to the A9 motorway, so you can be in fun cities such as Alkmaar or Haarlem in less than 20 minutes. And do you feel like spending a day walking through the dunes and going to the beach? Castricum aan Zee is also about a 20-minute drive from Erfgoedpark de Hoop.
