Situated on the north side of the charming village of Zeegse, the park offers an excellent base from which to explore Drenthe. From the park, you can walk or cycle straight into the beautiful stream and landscape of the Drentsche Aa. Explore picturesque villages or visit cities such as Assen, known for the TT-Circuit and the Drents Museum, and Groningen, with its rich history, lively restaurants and the iconic Groninger Museum.

Balloërveld and the sheep

The Balloërveld is a vast heathland area in Drenthe with a rich history. This ancient landscape was once a military training area and still harbours traces of prehistoric habitation, such as burial mounds and old cart tracks.

Today, it is a protected nature reserve, where you can walk with the shepherd and his flock every day. The sheep, which have been grazing across Balloërveld for generations, help maintain the heathland.

After the walk, you can enjoy a drink in the local shop and buy beautiful woollen products directly from the sheep you just followed. A unique experience in the middle of Drenthe nature!
