Drenthe

Winter in Drenthe is beautiful. Treat yourself to a relaxing break in the middle of the nature at the Drentsche Aa National Park. Enjoy the crystal clear air and the winter silence on a walk through nature or replenish your energy reserves with a spa day. Read all the tips for winter activities in Drenthe below.

Nature Experience Drentsche Aa

Park de Zeegser Duinen is located in the middle of the Drentsche Aa National Park and the nature experience begins right on the doorstep of your lodge. Wander through heather fields, sand drifts and wintery, silent forests and immerse yourself in the history of Drenthe at the unique hunebeds and the associated hunebeds information centre. On clear nights you can enjoy wonderful stargazing at Park de Zeegser Duinen.

On dry feet across the Dwingerveld National Park

Half an hour's drive from Park de Zeegser Duinen is the Dwingerveld National Park, the largest wet moorland in Western Europe. Behind the Boslounge Spier is the start of a 5 km long wooden plank path that leads right through the unique nature of the Dwingerveld. The path is marked with white signs, is not suitable for prams and dogs are allowed on a leash. With prams and small children, we recommend the 2.5 km long Dwingerveld family path, which also starts at the Boslounge. Afterwards you can warm up with a hot drink at Boslounge Spier (only open on weekends during the winter months).

Wellness in Drenthe

Winter in Drenthe, with its cool temperatures and short days, is perfect for a relaxing wellness break. Many accommodations at Park de Zeegser Duinen have their own wellness facilities, such as a private whirlpool, hottub or sauna. If you want to make your wellness stay complete, book our wellness package, which includes a day's entry to Wellness de Waterlelie, half an hour's drive from the park.

Skiing in Drenthe

Less than 30 minutes by car from Park de Zeegser Duinen you are on the slopes. At indoor ski hall Snowlimits you can try your first steps on skis or snowboards on a roller track or perfect your technique.

City life in Groningen

A very worthwhile destination for a day trip is the lively student city of Groningen, half an hour's drive from Park de Zeegser Duinen. Get lost at the picturesque city centre and stroll through the shops. Get a map at the VVV tourist information office and discover the hidden hofjes, Groningen's unique courtyards. A real winter must-do is CHCO Café in the Oude Ebbingestraat, a chocolate lover's paradise. Here you'll find more than 60 varieties of hot chocolate, chocolate fondue and high choc.

Winter activities for kids

Even in the winter months, there is plenty to do for children in Drenthe. Visit the tree top walk in Drouwen (27 minutes by car) and go exploring at airy heights. There is also a play forest at the tree top walk. If the weather doesn't cooperate, families can visit the indoor adventure park Plopsa Indoor Coevorden (48 minutes away by car).
