Autumn cycle tour from Schoorl to Bergen

From the village centre of Schoorl, cycle towards the Italian restaurant "La Grotta", after the restaurant turn left into the dunes. After about one kilometre you will reach the "Bospaviljoen de Berenkuil". Here you should definitely stop for a coffee. Then follow the path on the right side of the café until you reach the next major crossroads: here, turn left.

Keep to the right at the next junction and drive towards Bergen aan Zee. As you enter the village, the beach is already visible. Our favourite beach pavilion in Bergen aan Zee is "Noord": here you can sit outside sheltered from the wind even in autumn when the sun is shining. Noord is the perfect place for lunch.

With a lovely lunch inside, cycle along the Zeeweg in the direction of Bergen. After about 2 km, turn left at the roundabout and take Eeuwigelaan. This road is known for its sophisticated atmosphere and impressive villas. At the end of the street you cycle into the lovely centre of Bergen.

Bergen has a lively centre with many great boutiques, pubs and cafés. Around the old church, in the middle of the village, there is a selection of cosy cafés. Our favourite is "Fabels". Here you can treat yourself to a drink but also for lunch, dinner or a snack you are at the right address. If you like meat, you should visit "Loetje", the steak here is legendary.

From Bergen you cycle back to Schoorl in about 20 minutes. Now you definitely deserve a drink.

Tip for your bicycle tour: Bicycles, e-bikes and cargo bikes can be rented at the central reception of Dutchen in Schoorl. If you reserve them before your arrival, the bikes will already be waiting for you at your holiday home.

Autumn-Walk in Schoorl

Schoorl is famous for its impressive dune landscapes, and in autumn they turn into a true natural wonder. The trees turn warm autumn colours and the air is fresh and clear. There are numerous hiking trails that take you through the dunes and give you the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking autumn scenery.

Our recommendation for autumn is the green route, the so-called "Boomplanterstocht" (tree planting route), which winds for 12 km through the oldest forests in the dune area of Schoorl. Beautiful autumn colours are guaranteed on this route! Walk along paved and unpaved paths through the forests, dunes and heath areas, discover autumn treasures such as chestnuts and mushrooms along the way and watch the migratory birds that stop in the dunes on their way south.

Tip for the Boomplanterstocht: Stop at Brasserie IJgenweis, which is located next to the Buitencentrum Schoorlse Duinen visitor centre at the start and end points of the walk.

Family activities in autumn in Schoorl

The best starting point for family activities in autumn is the Buitencentrum Schoorlse Duinen, the visitor centre of the Schoorlse Duinen nature park with an adjoining café. There is a forest playground, activities are offered and special themed walking routes for children start here. Stop for a bite to eat during a walk or cycle ride through the Schoorlse Duinen: Bospaviljoen De Berenkuil.

Autumn mountain bike trail in Schoorl

Adrenalin junkies take note: The dunes of Schoorl are home to the most challenging and probably most beautiful mountain bike terrain in the Netherlands. The 14-kilometre route leads on narrow, partly sandy paths through the most beautiful parts of the dune landscape, partly also through autumn-coloured forests. If you don't want to ride the whole tour, you can also switch to one of the cycle paths at regular intervals.

Tips for your mountain bike adventure: The starting coordinates of the mountain bike route are N 52.68526, E 4.69792. Mountain bikes can be rented at Mountain Bike Huren Schoorl or at the Off Road Centre Schoorl.
